What the heck is functional body movement?

Let’s take you back a couple of years to your childhood.

Do you remember when you used to ride bikes, climb trees, make forts, play games, run, and jump?  When we did these things as kids, we were developing our bodies in three planes. (i.e., moving forward, backward, sideways, twisting and turning).  As we mature, all of our movements become very restricted, mostly moving in one plane (forward and backward) and this is where all of our injuries, aches, and pains stem from as ADULTS.

Functional body movement is imperative to your health, mobility, and the synergistic movement of all your muscles.

Training functionally merely means to emulate your daily tasks and make your body stronger and functional through all planes of motion.  For example, bending over to pick up a box and twisting and putting the box on a shelf over your head.  These are tasks that we face every day of our lives and if your body is not prepared to bend or twist under load “OUCH!!” There is another set-back, just another reason for inactivity.
